Yan is a social scientist in global health with a keen interest in health systems strengthening and
implementation science in low-and middle-income settings. Her implementation research has
enabled her to live and work across Asia, Africa, and Europe. her experience includes leading a
research capacity development project to generate evidence on fostering cross-disciplinary global
health research (UK and 10 countries in Sub-Sahara Africa), coordinating reproductive, maternal,
new-born, and child health services (Ethiopia), and within the WHO Western Pacific Regional Office
(Philippines). Yan received her Ph. D. from the University of Heidelberg (Germany), which focused on
an economic evaluation of an add-on syndromic surveillance system for the early detection of
outbreaks in China.
